Abraham Munting (1626-1683) was the son of Henricus Munting, Dutch botanist, and a renowned botanical artist. Munting's best known work, Naawkeurige Beschryving Der Aardgewassen was published in 1696 after his death. Later, Waare Oeffening de Planten, was a recreated as an improved version of Munting earlier editions. His work was greatly enjoyed and beloved due to being unique and going beyond the traditional botanical illustrations of its era. In his drawings, plant species were depicted against a backgrounds of classic or pastoral landscapes, often floating in midair with little regard for perspective and relative sizes. Once Abraham Munting passed in 1683, his son Albert Munting took over the running of Hortus Botanicus Groninganus.
