Hand-colored Engraving
This original, vibrant hand-colored engraving was printed between 1781 and 1790. The top of the piece details the wonderful pattern from the front and at the bottom, there is the view of the shape from a side angle giving the design more dimension.
Carlo Antonini was a designer, copperplate engraver, and architect who flourished in the late 18th century and into the early 19th century. Active in Rome and Modena, Antonini produced two great collections of ornamental copperplate engravings. The first of which was titled Manuale di vari Ornamenti, tratti dal Fabbriche e Frammenti Antichi, per uso e commodo de’ pittori, scultori, architetti, scarpellini, stuccatori and was published in Rome in four parts between 1781-1790. The first two parts were devoted to rosettes, including 100 plates, which appeared on exterior and interior Italian Renaissance houses and palaces.
Condition: Overall the engraving is in very good condition. The paper shows some oiling and discoloration as expected with age and the edges have been folded back. The platemark impression is strong and the colors vibrant.
Dimensions: 9 ½” x 7 ¼”
