A dense array of numbered circular diagrams, stereographic projections, and planetary shadow cones fills this 1790 copperplate engraving titled "Astronomy See the System." Officially designated as "Plate 4," the single instructional sheet compiles dozens of intricate astronomical drawings and geometric proofs tracking celestial mechanics such as solar eclipses and the geometry of the spheres. This highly technical layout was published on January 2 by London bookseller Charles Cooke from an original visual schema drawn by the draftsperson Moody, who signed the bottom left corner as "Moody delin." The composition was then expertly incised into metal by the master London printmaker John Lodge, whose signature appears in the bottom right corner as "Lodge sculp."

This comprehensive diagram plate was created for a major late 18th-century encyclopedic volume to visually accompany dense textual lessons on Newtonian physics and terrestrial coordinates. Charles Cooke operated a highly successful printing shop on Paternoster Row, where he specialized in producing mass-market, highly illustrated serial numbers designed to make academic knowledge affordable for the public. This technical engraving holds significant historical importance because it captures the massive push during the Enlightenment to condense advanced scientific geometry into clear, unified visual reference keys. By providing students with an all-in-one visual glossary of orbital projections, this print helped demystify the complex mathematics underpinning heliocentric astronomy and global navigation
