This original hand-colored engraving was published by William Daniell in London in 1814. This piece details the coastline of Near Combmartin on the Coast of North Devon. This engraving of people out at sea struggling to navigate or keep their ships afloat as they travel through strong waters. You can also witness the mountains and jagged rocks in the background of the engraving. 

William Daniell was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey. Daniell was an English landscape and marine painter as well as printmaker best known for his work in aquatint. He and his uncle, Thomas Daniell, traversed India and published the well-known work, Oriental Scenery. Later, Daniell traveled the coastline of Britain, painting watercolors for his book A Voyage Round Great Britain. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution later earning him an appointment as a Royal Academician in 1822.

Condition: Overall the engraving is in very good condition. Toning as expected due to age.  Mild foxing along the sides of the engraving. Engraving is unevenly cut along the bottom.  Overall paper is healthy and the colors are vibrant.
