This original hand-colored engraving was published by William Daniell in London in 1814. This piece details the coastline of Britton Ferry Glamorganshire. This engraving showcases the ferry area where ships going around the sea or returning to dock their ships at the ferry. You can also notice the white smoke entering into the air, the light grayish hills in the background and the abundance of forest green trees to the right side of the engraving.
William Daniell. was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey He was an English landscape and marine painter and printmaker. He is known for his work in aquatint. He travelled along side his uncle Thomas Daniell. Together, they travelled throughout India. Their most notable artwork together is Oriental Scenery. Later in his life Daniell travelled the coastline of Britain painting watercolors for his book A Voyage Round Great Britain. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution. Due to this, William Daniell was later appointed as a Royal Academician in 1822.
Condition: Overall the engraving is in good condition. Toning as expected due to age. Mild foxing along the sides of the engraving. Engraving is cut unevenly along the top. Overall paper is healthy and the colors are vibrant.
