This original hand-colored engraving was published by William Daniell in London in 1814. This piece details the coastline of Clovelly on the Coast of North Devon. This engraving shows a beautiful mountainside background, along with a town and its port alongside the coastline. You also witness a ship sailing out to into the ocean, people preparing to use their boats, others working on the port's structure, as well as people walking and talking in the town.
William Daniell. was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey He was an English landscape and marine painter and printmaker. He is known for his work in aquatint. He travelled along side his uncle Thomas Daniell. Together, they travelled throughout India. Their most notable artwork together is Oriental Scenery. Later in his life Daniell travelled the coastline of Britain painting watercolors for his book A Voyage Round Great Britain. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution. Due to this, William Daniell was later appointed as a Royal Academician in 1822.
Condition: Overall the engraving is in very good condition. Toning as expected due to age. Mild foxing along the sides of the engraving. Overall paper is healthy and the colors are vibrant.
