This original hand-colored engraving was published by William Daniell in London in 1814. This piece details the coastline of Part of the South Stack Holyhead. This engraving showcases the rocky cliffs along the coastline where a person is lowering a boat down to a fellow person. You can also notice the rigid detail painted into the cliffs giving them a very segmented appearance. There is also surrounding rushing waters and birds flying around the sea.
William Daniell. was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey He was an English landscape and marine painter and printmaker. He is known for his work in aquatint. He travelled along side his uncle Thomas Daniell. Together, they travelled throughout India. Their most notable artwork together is Oriental Scenery. Later in his life Daniell travelled the coastline of Britain painting watercolors for his book A Voyage Round Great Britain. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution. Due to this, William Daniell was later appointed as a Royal Academician in 1822.
Condition: Overall the engraving is in good condition. Toning as expected due to age. Mild foxing along the sides of the engraving. Engraving is cut unevenly along the bottom right edge. Overall paper is healthy and the colors are vibrant.
