This endearing mid-1940s children's print comically illustrates the classic nursery rhyme Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone? Created around 1945 by celebrated mid-century artist Ruth E. Newton, the playful kitchen scene centers on a wide-eyed, red-haired toddler in a white Dutch bonnet, an orange vest, and a vibrant yellow floral-printed skirt. The child looks around in confusion while carrying a pink-and-white striped bowl of food, completely unaware that her small black-and-white puppy is hiding directly behind her apron strings at her feet. Blue-and-white decorative plates line a shelf in the background, while Newton's signature is clearly stamped onto the wooden floorboards on the left. Below the illustration, four lines of the familiar verse printed on highly tactile, linenette paper complete a durable and glare-free design tailored perfectly for a post-war nursery book.
