Hand Colored Engraving
A fine hand-colored copper engraving from Philip Miller’s celebrated work, Figures of the Most Beautiful, Useful and Uncommon Plants described in the Gardeners Dictionary, featuring a graceful botanical study of an Antholyza. The composition depicts long, ribbed linear foliage rising from the base to support a delicate, arching flowering stem with pale pink blooms arranged along one side. Beneath the image border, an engraved caption reads ANTHOLYZA foliis linearibus sulcatis floribus albis uno versu dispositis, accompanied by the engraver's signature Tho. Jeffereys sculp. and publication line Published according to Act by P. Miller September the 20th 1755.
Engraved at the upper right with plate number Pl. XLI, the print is rendered in soft olive-green tones along the ribbed foliage, complemented by delicate blush pink hand-coloring on the tubular floral petals.
